a mind is a terrible thing to share

Image of William Denn

William Denn

William Denn has problems. Several people reside in his mind, taking turns controlling his body. Worse, he's resigned to letting them live his life for him.

William Denn's personalities

Image of Angela

Angela

Angela is apparently a girl of seven. She has an adult intelligence.

Image of Arty

Arty

If Arty isn't as cool as he thinks he is, he's also not as untrustworthy as the others believe. Generally disliked, his insinuating nature nonetheless secures his place as a necessary evil. He will do anything for anybody, and he's surprisingly good at distasteful tasks.

It is his proficiency with minor crime that has allowed "William Denn" to make the most of his limited and sporadic resources. Recognizing Arty's contributions, Vinnie turns a blind eye to his activities, although Arty knows that this privilege is his to lose.

He is Mark's only friend, although it would be more accurate to say that they don't hate each other.

Image of Cass

Cass

Cass is a generous and caring person that will think nothing of kicking your butt if you step out of line. She would like to think that she's a misanthropist, but she really believes that everyone has some good in them. Even Mark; he makes an excellent practice dummy.

She spends most of her time in the schoolroom, with the children. Initially she focussed on instructing them, but now she serves mostly as a discussion leader.

Image of Eric

Eric

Perhaps the most disturbing of the children, Eric resembles a toddler.

Image of Jackie

Jackie

Jackie is something of an enigma. He displays no personality of his own, coming to life only when imitating others. It has been suggested that he might be an autistic savant, but it's more as though he's simply incomplete.

Even his name is unknown. Arty first called him Jackie because he "looks like a Jackie". The name stuck, and Jackie responds as much to it as to any other stimulus.

He's fond of chocolate milk shakes.

Image of James

James

Easily dismissed by the others, James actually wields considerable clout. His regular appearances in "Really Strange Narratives" magazine provide a small but steady flow of money. It is not much, but it keeps the rent paid, and gives James frequent access to the stage.

James is a regular in the Forum, although he prefers to sit alone.

This is usually not a problem for him.

Image of Kit

Kit

Not much is known about Kit. He floats in the eye of a lesser maelstrom.

Image of Mark

Mark

What can be said about somebody that clearly thinks only of himself, resists any form of authority, and destroys things on a whim? All of it has been said about Mark, the juvenile delinquent whose intensity frightens lesser young offenders.

Banned from the stage, unwelcome in the Forum (or anywhere else that there are other personalities), Mark keeps to himself in a world of his own invention.

The fact that this pleases everybody else only deepens his resentment.

Image of Robert

Robert

Although he looks to be a boy of seven, Robert is possessed of an mature mind.

Image of Timothy

Timothy

Physically, Timothy is about 11 years old. Mentally, he functions as an adult.

Image of Vinnie

Vinnie

Vinnie controls access to the stage, the area of William Denn's mind that enables personalities to take over the body. Anyone who wants 'outside time' has to deal with him. Despite this position of authority, he's generally approachable and accommodating. He honestly likes most of the other personalities, even though he thinks they tend to be selfish.

To date, he's only outright banned one personality from ever taking the stage again.

Vinnie likes to keep tabs on everyone, which often takes him away from the Forum. It is a commonly held belief that he does not need to see the stage to know what William Denn is doing, and some feel that he is in fact the real core personality.

Image of Walter

Walter

A perfectionist in an untidy mind, Walter will not be content until he has surrounded himself with order. It is a herculean task, but one for which he holds himself amply prepared.

Walter is not popular with the others, but his certainty can be persuasive.

An avid reader, and a ready learner, Walter spends much of his 'outside time' in the library, searching for the key to a proper and sensible existence.
